Along with the books, the Dave Ramsey show has really changed the way I think about money, finances and planning for the rest of my life. I finally found the Dave Ramsey radio show although I tend to listen to it on a scratchy am station out of Portland. Unfortunately, we aren’t able to get the Dave Ramsey tv show in our area. The books have a been a big help though.
One nice thing about Dave Ramsey and his website is that they run frequent promotions where you can buy almost everything for ten dollars. Last time they had the sale I bought three copies of his book Total Money Makeover. I saved a copy for my own library and I gave a copy to my sister and another to my parents. I’m sure people think that is a weird gift but it was just something I wanted to share.
There are plenty of Dave Ramsey critics that don’t believe in his philospohy regarding money management but for me and for the most part his teachings ring true to me and I have successfully incorporated them into the financial life of my family. Dave uses a baby step method that works very well, particularly for people that have no skills when it comes to money management. The first pre baby step is to get current on all your bills, for some people that can be a real struggle but you are never going to move forward until you are meeting your minimum debt. After that the official baby step number one is to establish an emergency savings fun of $1000 minimum, although some people find the need to have more.
I’m always shocked to find people that have never had a savings! Living paycheck to paycheck is quite a scary thought. But step by step Dave Ramsey shows you how to find ways to save that $1000 and more importantly what you should and should not do with it.
If you haven’t had a chance to check out the Dave Ramsey radio show, you definitely should, once you hear his advice and read his books, the information becomes very clear, the baby steps are easy to follow and before you know it you will have changed the financial legacy of your family forever.
