Ahh, another episode of Top Chef and this time is was the semi-finale in Puerto Rico. To be honest, this one was a bit tough to stomach, but more about that later. To start off, I was surprised at how much time had passed since the last episode, from a few of the comments it sounded like it had been 6 months since their last challenge. Some like Stephanie, chef/owner of Scylla in Chicago, has been traveling in Thailand for months and Antonia had opened her own restaurant.

I thought it was interesting that unlike previous episodes of Top Chef, it seemed like the contests had a good take on the country they were coming to and the type of food they would have to prepare. Stephanie ended up winning the quickfire challenge which allowed her to take the 4 returning chefs and pair them up as sous chefs for the final challenge. Can I just say that Lisa has to be such a miserable person to be around in regular life? Does the woman every quit her bitching, moaning and whining?

Okay, so the gross thing was that for their final challenge they had to hack apart and prepare a whole pig. It seemed like the butchering sequences wouldn’t end. I think they spent more time on the contestents hacking apart the poor pigs than they did on the actual preparation of the food. There was an unfortunate incident when Dale forgot and left out some of the meat Stephanie had prepared and it was left out overnight. Stephanie smartly decided to toss is all away and start with a new dish from scratch.

Sad to say, one of my favorites (go Moms!) Antonia was told to pack her knives and go, so we get at least one more hour of Lisa bitching her way to the finals of Top Chef.
